cryptid (n): a creature believed to exist, but for which no conclusive proof exists.

Gruesome murders of South African farmers spur reports of a possible "cryptid" - a creature previously undiscovered by science. Adding credence to the reports is the fact that the remote area in question is the fabled "Cradle of Humankind", where many of the most important human ancestor fossil finds including Austraolopithecus and the Taung Child have been recorded. The worldwide news coverage of the gruesome murder of a South African news reporter attracts an international team of scientists under Dr. Lena Carlin (Lori Petty, TANK GIRL, ROUTE 666, LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, POINT BREAK), including shrewd, jive-talking Isaac Florentine (platinum rap star Petey Pablo), British tech wizard Rob Jernigan (Nick Irons, PROVOKED, VLAD, THE AMERICAN EMBASSY), and beautiful Asian empath Tracy Serajah (Indian star Sandra Teles, BACKWATERS). Their mission is to investigate the deaths, and confirm or deny the existence of the possible cryptid.

In South Africa, the team arrives at the most recently attacked farm - a vulnerable homestead on the edge of the Kruger game reserve - only to find that they must deal with the very bitter and hostile daughter of the dead farming couple, Susan (Juanita Burmeister), who is convinced that it is locals stirring up rumors of a creature to gain attention, and has no inclination to cooperate with the team. Carlin, however, convinces her that if indeed the rumors are "rubbish", then good science will confirm this, and Susan and her brother Dan (South African star Colin Moss) - who is a captain in the local Area Defense Force charged with protecting the farms and farmers - can get on with their lives. Reluctantly, Susan allows the team to take up residence at the isolated farm and begin their investigation.

On the morning after their arrival, Dan shows Carlin an unusual claw-like weapon which he found in a cave, and which matches a similar claw found near the body of the disemboweled news reporter. The team sets out to the cave, but on the way discover a disemboweled body of a young boy and the remnants of a terrorized village. At the cave, they discover cave paintings and other evidence of recent habitation by something - they don't know what. They realize someone - or some thing - is watching them, and chaos ensues as they are chased from the cave and into the jungle. When they arrive at their vehicle, they find that the driver has been killed... disemboweled like the others.

That night, the electrified perimeter fence sparks to life as something tries to break in. Carlin and Dan investigate and find evidence that the cryptid has paid them a visit. Things settle down, but only for a short time. The electricity suddenly goes out, and in the darkness they hear the sound of something racing rapidly toward the farm. They don't realize it, but a night of terror, horrific destruction, and death awaits them.
